Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development Corporation (GIISDEC), on the 25th November 2025, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ghana Geological Survey Authority (GGSA) to deepen technical cooperation aimed at accelerating the development of Ghana’s fully integrated iron and steel industry.
The partnership establishes a structured framework for collaboration in geoscientific research, geological mapping, mineral resource estimation, and technical advisory services. Under the MoU, GGSA will provide GIISDEC with relevant technical and specialized expertise to enhance the assessment and development of iron ore deposits in the country.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, both institutions emphasized the importance of the agreement in strengthening Ghana’s mineral resource base and supporting the Government’s industrialization agenda. The collaboration aligns with GIISDEC’s mandate under Act 988 to coordinate and promote all activities related to the discovery, exploration, and development of Ghana’s iron and steel resources.
The MoU will enable:
  • Joint geological mapping and mineral resource data gathering
  • Technical support for mineral resource estimation (MRE)
  • Enhanced geoscientific data sharing for feasibility studies
  • Improved evaluation and certification of iron ore deposits for investment readiness
This strategic partnership is expected to improve the reliability of geological information required for investor engagement, mining operations, and downstream steel manufacturing. It also reinforces GIISDEC’s commitment to transparency, technical excellence, and sustainable resource development.
GIISDEC believes that the formalized collaboration with GGSA marks a significant step toward unlocking the full potential of Ghana’s iron ore reserves and accelerating the establishment of a robust, competitive iron and steel industry.
