The Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development Corporation, on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, organised a high-level stakeholders’ forum aimed at fostering dialogue around the formalisation of Ghana’s scrap metal industry.
The event brought together representatives from scrap dealers’ associations across the country as well as the Steel Manufacturers Association of Ghana.
The engagement forms part of GIISDEC’s ongoing efforts to streamline operations within the scrap value chain and build a more structured, transparent, and sustainable sector.
At the heart of the discussions was GIISDEC’s strategic initiative to formalise the scrap trade, ensuring that dealers and steel producers operate within a well-regulated framework that benefits all stakeholders.
The session ended on a positive note, with both dealers and smelters commending GIISDEC for taking the lead in bringing structure and long-term vision to the industry. Participants welcomed the move as timely and necessary, especially considering Ghana’s broader industrialisation agenda and the growing demand for steel and recycled materials.
This stakeholder dialogue marks a significant step in GIISDEC’s broader mandate to develop Ghana’s iron and steel industry as a pillar of industrial transformation and economic resilience.
