The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development Corporation, Hon. William Okofo-Dateh led a team to the Gyamurume iron ore deposit site in Oti region where the corporation is currently undertaking a comprehensive Mineral Resource Estimation (MRE) which is being carried out by the Africa Minerals Exploration Group (AEMG).
The CEO was accompanied by a cross-functional team that included the Deputy CEO (Strategy and Investor Relations), Mr. Abdulai Batiah, the Director of Corporate Affairs and International Relations, the Director of Finance, and some staff from the Corporate Affairs and Geology departments.
The 3-day strategic visit from Wednesday 9th to Friday 11th April 2025 forms part of the corporation’s effort to a strong oversight responsibility of Ghana’s emerging integrated iron and steel industry and ensure effective community/stakeholder relations.
The team during the visit received a technical update from AEMG’s onsite geologists and engineers and inspected the ongoing drilling activity which forms a core part of the MRE.
As part of the visit, the team paid a courtesy call to the chiefs and elders of the Asato and Akpafu Traditional areas where the new executive management was formally introduced to the community leadership; reaffirming GIISDEC’s commitment to maintaining effective community/stakeholder engagement. The traditional leaders warmly received the team and reaffirmed their support for GIISDEC’s ongoing activities, emphasizing sustained dialogue, community involvement, and equitable benefits as the project progressed.
The team also visited Bodada/Tetema as well as Akokrowa (Asokwakor) to have further engagements with the traditional leaders.
