Message From The CEO

Over the past few years, GIISDEC has worked tirelessly towards the quest to position the country as a key player in Africa’s mineral development landscape. With a clear vision and strong partnerships, we continue to make strides toward building a robust, sustainable, and competitive iron and steel sector that will contribute meaningfully to national development.
One of our most promising achievements so far has been the ongoing exploration of iron ore deposits in the Oti Region, particularly in the Gyamurume area of the Kadjebi District. Since the exploration activity began, GIISDEC and our technical partner, Africa Exploration and Minerals Group (AEMG), have made significant progress. Early findings from the field have revealed high-grade iron ore formations near the surface, an encouraging indicator of the area’s potential.
Extensive geological mapping and drilling operations are currently underway. We have identified large formations of oxidised ironstone extending across a wide stretch of land, with early tests confirming a consistent ore quality. In addition, the discovery of associated rock formations may signal the presence of other valuable minerals, which adds further promise to the site. We expect the current phase of drilling to be completed within the year (2025), with a full resource estimate to follow soon after.
These developments have attracted considerable interest from potential investors. However, we are taking a measured and responsible approach. We are committed to validating all data through thorough analysis before moving into advanced discussions. This ensures that any future partnerships are built on a foundation of transparency and confidence.
Looking ahead, our ambition is to establish a full value chain for iron and steel production in Ghana, from mining and processing to finished products. This effort will significantly reduce our reliance on imported steel and contribute to the broader industrialisation of our economy. We are already preparing for large-scale mining operations in Sheini (in the Northern region) and Opon-Mansi (in the Western region) and aim to begin domestic processing in the near future. This move is expected to create jobs, build local capacity, and generate long-term economic value.
At the heart of our operations is a strong commitment to local content, sustainability, and community development. We continue to work closely with focal communities, traditional leaders, and other stakeholders to ensure that our projects bring real benefits. Employment creation, skills development, and social support initiatives are underway, and we plan to expand these efforts as the project grows.
